SOUND OF SUPERBAD DJS

Babalicious

My musical influences today hark back to the experiences from my childhood – I remember my Mum on a Sunday morning (early doors) waking up the household with upbeat Soca, or the ‘exquisite vocals’ of Gregory Isaacs, or some beautiful Rare Groove. The point is it was integrated into her day rather than it being something she listened to in order to relax. If I reflect on the spectrum of music I enjoy, it’s anything from 80s/90s Hip Hop to Rare Groove to R&B to Garage to Funk to Bashment and latterly (courtesy of Andy) Brazilian and Jazz.

I have such fond memories of being a b-girl gathered around a boom box and a piece of Lino watching my ‘crew’ hone their street dance skills. It wasn’t just about the music, it was a way of life and an expression of oneself. So, thanks Mum for the exposure to music in my formative years – I’ve definitely been passed that baton. So in summary I hope that in turn, you’ll enjoy the tunes that I share with you. Some make me joyful, some make me tearful from the memories of that time BUT all of them make me feel x.
